Hi David. Thanks for the response.
When we throw around concepts like exclusivity, inclusivity, and diversity - I think it is also appropriate to throw around concepts like conforming, adapting, and transforming (which your articles traded in). More importantly though is connecting these concepts to some biblical foundation; but not in an eisegetical way in order to get what we want from the text, but in an exegetically as a way of discerning what kind of relationship the Church should have with the World.
It is clear to me that those who consider themselves part of the Church should also consider themselves agents of Christ. We are to emulate what Christ did in every way we can, by seeking out those he sought out, and by loving them into the Kingdom. For instance, even if you think that the LGBTQIA+ lifestyle is sinful, that shouldn't prevent you from trying to reach LGBTQIA+ persons with the Gospel. I'm sure every Christian agrees with that, but where we disagree is over HOW we reach people.
My theory is that the "old guard" (which might be represented by the PCA denomination in my case) believes that the way to reach people is through John 3:3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” The message here is that "it's okay if you believe you're gay, bisexual, or trans, but if you want to follow Jesus then you need to set those beliefs aside and 'sin no more' because your new life in Christ is about seeking holiness, purity, and righteousness." This approach you might say requires very little cultural adaptation because it demands conformity.
