What began as a simple query for me turned into runaway project that I quickly became obsessed with finishing.

Having recently stepped into the role of a solo pastor at a small but vibrant church, I started consuming loads of blogs and videos about church growth. There are some really great content creators out there who are dropping some solid advice (shout out to Brady Shearer and Christ Abbott), but I wanted to explore what ChatGPT had to offer. The prompts I gave began snowballing and I began compiling a document of the best responses, that eventually grew to nearly 9000 words of content!

My favorite section of the Church Growth Strategy Guide has to be the application of the Hero’s Journey archetype to church. For me, when starting a new project that seems massive and daunting, I find it helpful to stay rooted and grounded in a narrative that can give that project meaning. Because we worship and serve the LORD, we can trust that He is working in and through us to make all things good and new again. It is never too late for a congregation to start writing a new chapter of its story.

While it may not be the ultimate or definitive church growth strategy guide, there is enough to get your church leadership pointed in the right direction and get the ball rolling. What is ultimate and definitive is the authority of Christ — authority that he has commissioned us with to grow the Church! So let’s get to work!
